Monterrico

Staying by a friend’s place from Guatemala City allowed me to discover other less visited site of Guatemala such as Monterrico.

Monterrico is one of the beach destination of Guatemala on the Pacific Coast, what’s radically different from any other beach is the sand. Due to volcanic ground, the sand is black.

Monterrico is almost not touristy developped, which means you will never run into a big crowd of tourists, there are a few budget places to stay and a couple of restaurant.

We even discovered a swiss touch at Cafe del Sol

On the highlight of the place is to release some baby turtles in the sea, pretty fun! See how cute it is!

And the other interest are the mangroves, this natural mix between bush, swamps and the ocean. We woke up early in the morning in order to enjoy the sunrise over the place. And a stunning view over the main volcanoes of central Guatemala.

We took a small boat in the morning and explored the mangroves for a few hours, great pictures!

Finally there is a place where you can see a few reptiles amongst which caimans and other lizards.

The road back to Guatemala feels like we are going to drive IN the volcano, exciting!
